The 2025 Masaza Cup quarterfinals kicked off in style on Sunday, September 28, with fans across Buganda treated to thrilling first-leg encounters. Three sides — Kyaggwe, Buweekula, and Bugerere — seized the initiative with vital wins, while the heavyweight clash between Mawokota and Ssingo ended in a tense stalemate.
Kyaggwe Edge Closer to the Semi Final
Last year’s beaten finalists Kyaggwe showed their intent with a commanding 2-0 victory over Ssese at Bishop SS Playground, Mukono.
David Mugalu ignited celebrations with a 19th-minute strike, before James Innocent sealed the win late in the 88th minute. With a two-goal cushion, Kyaggwe head into the return leg in pole position to book another semifinal spot.
Buweekula Secure Priceless Away Win
At Kakindu Playground in Busujju, Buweekula earned a narrow but crucial 1-0 win. League top scorer Jimmy Kalema once again proved the difference, netting the lone goal to give coach Flex Ssekabunza’s charges a significant away advantage.
Bugerere Entertain Home Crowd
Fans at Ntejeru Ssaza Playground witnessed end-to-end action as Bugerere edged Buluuli 2-1.
Mike Katumwa and Osman Mayanja struck for the home side, while Levis Okello Barasaa pulled one back for Buluuli to keep the tie alive. The second leg promises fireworks as both sides go all out for a semifinal slot.
Giants Cancel Each Other Out
The most anticipated fixture saw Mawokota (three-time winners) and Ssingo (four-time winners) lock horns at Buwama Community Ground. Despite the high stakes, both teams settled for a cagey 0-0 draw, leaving everything to play for in the second leg.
