Kyaddondo Ssaza head coach Bright Nyanzi Taddeo has resigned from his role following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Busujju in Matchday Three of the 2026 Masaza Cup, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure amid growing pressure from supporters.
Nyanzi’s decision comes after chaotic scenes at the end of the match, where sections of Kyaddondo fans reportedly confronted the coach over the team’s disappointing start to the campaign. Police officers were forced to intervene and escort him away from the scene to ensure his safety.
Speaking after stepping down, the experienced tactician said concerns over his personal security influenced his decision.
“The team is not bad, the run has been not bad so far and the progress was visible, but for the purposes of my life, I decided to step aside,” Nyanzi said.
Kyaddondo’s frustrations deepened during the encounter after goalkeeper Ashraf Bwabye was sent off, leaving the visitors to finish the match with 10 men as Busujju secured the decisive goal.
The result means Kyaddondo remain without a win after three matches in this year’s competition. They opened their campaign with back-to-back draws against defending champions Buweekula and Buddu before suffering their first defeat of the tournament.
Despite the difficult start, Nyanzi believed the team had shown encouraging signs of improvement. However, the hostile reaction from some supporters ultimately convinced the CAF B Licence holder that it was no longer possible to continue in the role.
Nyanzi is well known in Ugandan football, having served as assistant coach to Simon Peter Mugerwa when Busiro lifted the 2023 Masaza Cup title. He also guided Rines Secondary School to the USSSA U20 Girls’ Football Championship, further enhancing his reputation in youth football.
Elsewhere in Matchday Three, Buddu continued their strong start with a 1-0 away victory over struggling defending champions Buweekula, while Mawokota claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Gomba. Bugerere also produced one of the standout results of the round, earning a rare 2-0 away victory against Kabula.
