Amus College Make Flying Start as Uganda Sweep Four Wins in CAF Africa Schools Championship Qualifiers

Uganda made a perfect start to the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, with Amus College School winning all four of their opening-day matches in both boys’ and girls’ competitions.

The CECAFA regional qualifiers got underway on Thursday, with the boys’ matches played at the FERWAFA Sports Complex, while the girls’ competition was hosted at Kigali Pele Stadium.

Representing Uganda in both categories, Amus College immediately announced their intentions, collecting maximum points from their opening two group matches in each competition.

In the girls’ competition, Amus opened their campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Burundi, with Hellen Namulondo, Faith Akoi and Irene Akurut finding the net.

They followed that up with a narrow but important 1-0 victory over hosts Rwanda, with Faith Trinah Nakawuuki scoring the decisive goal.

The boys were equally impressive, beginning their campaign with a 1-0 victory over South Sudan. Vincent Kiiza scored the only goal of the match to give Uganda maximum points.

Amus then produced their most convincing performance of the day, defeating Burundi 3-0.

Keneddy Okwi was the star of the show, scoring twice in the 3rd and 36th minutes, while Andrew Seguya added the other goal in the 6th minute to complete a dominant display.

The four victories leave both Ugandan teams in a strong position heading into their final group-stage matches on Friday morning.

The boys will face Somalia, while the girls will take on South Sudan, with both sides needing positive results to secure their places in the semi-finals.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday evening, with the third-place play-offs and finals set for Saturday afternoon.

Having registered four wins from four matches on the opening day, Amus College will now aim to maintain their perfect record and guide Uganda into both finals as the battle for regional qualification intensifies in Kigali.
