Buganda Region FA Zone 1 Holds Women’s Football Strategy Meeting
Buganda Region Football Associations (BRFA) Zone 1 has held its first women’s football strategy meeting as the zone steps up preparations for the upcoming 4th Division Women’s Football League.
The meeting was held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Zone 1 offices in Lugazi Municipality, bringing together members of the zone’s Women’s Football Committee to discuss strategies for mobilising clubs to participate in the league.
Addressing the committee, Zone 1 Chairman Joseph Kiwanuka challenged members to return to their respective areas and mobilise women’s football teams ahead of the competition.
“We have a big task of making sure we have teams taking part in the league because we are mandated by the federation (FUFA) and Buganda Region Football Association, so we have to set a precedence,” Kiwanuka said.
Zone targets revival of women’s football
Kiwanuka also emphasised the historical importance of women’s football in Zone 1, saying the area has a strong tradition that should be revived.
“Buganda Region FA Zone 1 has a record as one of the founding zones when it comes to women’s football, tracing back to the old days of Buikwe She Red Stars. We want to revive women’s football not only in the zone but also in the region,” he told Voice of Bugerere Media.
The meeting was also attended by Zone 1 Women’s Football Committee member Cissy Kabanga, who called on parents, clubs and the wider public to support women’s participation in football.
“Gone are the days when women were left behind. Nowadays, women are taking on positions in sports, and this is the right time for parents to give the green light to their daughters to play the beautiful game,” Kabanga said.
She further urged club owners to take advantage of the league and register teams.
“The league gives women an opportunity to play competitive and organised football, so club owners, please register clubs to compete,” she added.
Four districts targeted
Buganda Region FA Zone 1 comprises Mukono, Buikwe, Kayunga and Buvuma districts.
According to Kiwanuka, the zone is determined to achieve in women’s football what it has been working towards in the men’s game ensuring representation from all four districts.
“We have tried our level best to see that we now have clubs for the 4th Division in the men’s league from all the four districts, and that is exactly what we are targeting in the women’s league,” Kiwanuka added.
With Mens League Clubs already identified now focus turns to Women Football and the target is to see that teams turns up
The zone has a number of clubs that could form part of the mobilisation drive.
Mukono District: Seeta Nazigo FC, Misindye FC, Bajjo United FC, Golden Impact FC, Sparks SC, Shavie FC and Manyangwa.
Buikwe District: Butema Soccer Masters, Njeru FC, Njeru West FC, Lugazi Nabugabo and Buikwe Red Stars.
Kayunga District: Bbaale United FC.
Buvuma District: Nairambi Seed SS.
With the mobilisation exercise now underway, Zone 1 hopes to attract more clubs and create a competitive platform that will provide women footballers with regular, organised and competitive football opportunities.
