UOC Elections: Muhangi Congratulates Don, Now Demands Constitution Amendments

The president of Uganda Boxing Federation, Moses Muhangi congratulated National Council of Sport Chairman, Donald Rukare for standing unopposed in UOC forthcoming elections.

Don went through unopposed as the next Uganda Olympic Committee President since none contested against him and 27th February, 2021 electoral committee will be confirming him to lead the Committee for the next four years replacing William Blick whose two terms are ending this month.

Muhangi was among those who showed interest to contest on the post but later declined his interests.

This website managed to reach at Muhangi and revealed why he did not contest.

“First of all, I congratulate Dr. Rukare and those who went through unopposed because it shows that they contested even in this environment.” Muhangi said before confirming that he did not pick nomination papers from the electoral committee. “As a person, I did not pick nomination forms though I showed interest to contest but due to issues I raised and not attended to, I decided to decline.”

Rukare when confirmed as UOC president, he will be having two positions at National Council of Sports as Chairman and president at UOC, Muhangi had a comment on this.

“From day one when I learnt that it’s Donald is coming, I did not support that, this shows that Sports we are very weak, we don’t have persons who can occupy such offices, another thing is if I get misunderstanding with him at UOC where should I run to!, it’s very dangerous for one person to trust one person with two important offices, God forbid, whatif he gets personal problems, maybe accident and the two offices go dormant at once?” Muhangi asked.

“But the good thing, NCS chairmanship position is by appointment and UOC presidency is elective, so if the appointment team finds it not necessary to have two positions at once maybe they will change.” He added.

According to Muhangi, a lot need to be amended in UOC constitution, like the too much restrictions put on elective positions, unclear guidelines of election process and the like and he is ready to champion the move to see that the Committee accommodates those issues.
