UPL: Nakivubo is not a ‘basement’, it’s a ‘Printers’ Arcade’, UPPC Lectures UPDF

Entebbe UPPC maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season after coming from a goal down to defeat UPDF FC 2-1 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Tuesday.

Thomas Ochungo and Ambrose Kigozi scored the decisive goals as the Printers recovered from a sluggish start to condemn the Soldiers to their first defeat of the campaign.

UPDF started brightly and dominated possession in the opening exchanges, with their high-pressing approach causing problems for the UPPC backline.

Their pressure finally paid off in the 25th minute when Derrick Talemwa rose highest to head home the opener and give the Soldiers a deserved lead.

UPPC struggled to find their rhythm, particularly in midfield, where they repeatedly surrendered possession. Head coach Abdallah Mubiru responded by making an early tactical change in the 32nd minute, replacing Ibrahim Orit with Hassan Ssenjonjo.

The introduction of Ssenjonjo immediately injected more urgency into the Printers’ attack, and he registered their first attempt on goal two minutes later.

UPPC’s persistence was rewarded in the 40th minute when Ochungo rose highest to meet Ibrahim Mugulusi’s well-delivered free-kick and head the hosts level.

The two sides went into the break tied at 1-1.

UPPC returned from the dressing room with renewed purpose and began the second half on the front foot, pressing UPDF in search of a second goal.

Their efforts paid off in the 70th minute when substitute Ambrose Kigozi, who had replaced Sharif Ssengendo in the 63rd minute, was brought down inside the penalty area.

Referee Hillary Twesigye pointed to the spot, and Kigozi took responsibility, sending UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama the wrong way to put UPPC ahead in the 71st minute.

UPDF’s hopes of mounting a comeback suffered another blow when Swaibu Kasujja Kasule was shown a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the 75th minute.

With the numerical advantage, UPPC comfortably managed the closing stages to secure all three points.

The victory takes UPPC to six points from their opening two matches, while UPDF remain on one point from two games.

Elsewhere, NEC strengthened their position at the top of the table with a 3-1 victory over Lugazi FC.
