Phiona Nabasa Wall the President of Uganda Law society has revealed that the body is seriously taking steps to address the cases of kidnap and abductions that have so much increased in the country in recent days.
It should be noted that Nabasa has only spent six months in the top seat of Uganda law society but she says that the organization is not deaf about the increasing kidnaps and abductions for they’re surely looking into the matter.
It should be remembered that during and after the general presidential campaigns, very many people in different parts of the country have been reported missing and their friends and families have lived in fear and tried raising the matter demanding for justice for their beloved ones but all in vain.
While appearing on a local TV show (NBS face off, ). Wall assuredly said that the Uganda Law society is looking at the matter and that they created a task force that has worked on about 200 cases.
“What you need to know is that we established a task force of over 100 lawyers. We also gave toll free number out for people so that they can seek for help if there’s need.” Wall said before adding, “And as of now, the task force has worked on at least 200 cases”.
According to wall, people seems not want to give them information which can be of help to the body.
” You can’t imagine we’ve only received from only five people. We even sent people to check in prison “
Phiona says that Uganda Law society is very ready to take legal action but it’s better when they do it from instructions from the families of the affected and that they have encountered some limitations.
” We are surely working hard but there are limitations that bars us from working with instructions forexample the Advocates Act ” said wall.
