Dancesport: Uganda Youth Breaking Team Challenged to Return from Chengdu with Trophies

Uganda’s National Youth Breaking Team has been challenged to go beyond participation and return with trophies when they represent the country at the WDSF World Breaking Championship in Chengdu, China, from September 12–13, 2026.
The three-member team comprising Ntulume George William, Muzaki Vanessa Aidah and Kawala Sophia, under the guidance of Head Coach Serwakulya Edrine, was flagged off on Thursday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo.
The team was flagged off by NCS Assistant General Secretary (Administration) Joseph Oluga, who praised the Uganda DanceSport Federation (UDSF) for its organisation and compliance with the country’s sports regulations.
“I want to say categorically clear that one of the well organised sports in Uganda is DanceSport. We’re undergoing reforms where we’re going through the process of licensing sports organisations, and I can confirm that Uganda DanceSport Federation sailed through in the first round without any issues and have a certificate from National Council,” Oluga stated.
Oluga urged the athletes to uphold discipline and patriotism while representing Uganda in China, reminding them that they carry the country’s image on the international stage.
“DanceSport is for all, but I want to charge you people who are representing our country that the moment you step on the plane, know that you’re representing one country called Uganda. So be patriotic, exercise maximum discipline,” he said.
He also cautioned the athletes against abandoning the team while in China, while challenging them to compete with the ambition of winning rather than simply taking part.
“Once I hear that any of you has disappeared from China, we shall look for you. And lastly, you’re going to compete, not to participate. Government can’t invest money in you without the returns, so the least I expect from you is trophies,” Oluga added.
The team enters the championship after five days of intensive training, with captain Ntulume George William confident that the preparations will help Uganda secure qualification to the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
“We have been training for the past five days. I believe the training we have done will help us to qualify. My main target remains to qualify to the Youth Olympics in Dakar,” the team captain said.
The Chengdu championship will provide Uganda’s young breakers with an opportunity to test themselves against some of the world’s best young talent, while also pursuing a pathway towards the Youth Olympic Games.
The Ugandan delegation will travel through Entebbe International Airport following the flag-off ceremony and will be seeking to make a strong impression on the international stage.
