USSSA Decides 2026: Kitezaala ‘Voluntarily’ Exit, Muhumuza Pushed as USSSA Top Body Takes New Shape

NAMASUBA — Former Central Region representative Richard Muhumuza has failed to retain a place on the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Executive Committee after suffering defeat in the race for 3rd Vice President during the association’s 44th Elective General Assembly held on Saturday at Front Page Hotel, Namasuba.

Muhumuza, who served on the outgoing Executive Committee as the Central Region representative, polled 40 votes against newcomer Celia Amanya’s 70 in the only contest for a national executive position. The third candidate, Haji Kiteezaala Twahil, withdrew from the race on election day and threw his support behind Amanya before delegates cast their ballots.

Kiteezaala’s withdrawal also marked the end of his stint on the Executive Committee, making him another notable casualty of the 2026 elections as USSSA ushered in a new leadership team for the 2026–2030 term.

The elections were conducted by the USSSA Electoral Commission chaired by Opio Joseph Ekodeu, assisted by commissioners Barigye Richard and Wataba Hellen, bringing to a close an electoral process that began at the district level before progressing through zonal elections to the national assembly.

A total of 95 delegates and 20 outgoing Executive Committee members attended the General Assembly. Of the 115 eligible voters, 113 cast their ballots after two members were absent.

While most Executive Committee positions were filled unopposed, elections were held for only three positions: 3rd Vice President, Northern Region representatives and Western Region representatives.

Amanya’s victory saw her become the new USSSA 3rd Vice President, replacing the outgoing office holder and becoming one of the new faces on the Executive Committee.

Incumbent president Justus Mugisha secured a second four-year term unopposed. He will continue to lead the association alongside First Vice President Harriet Apolot and Second Vice President Okot P’Bitek, who also retained their positions unopposed.

The Northern Region will be represented on the Executive Committee by Miriam Makeba, Bithola Ocukune and Obura Moses, while the Western Region elected Tindimwebwa Elizabeth, Kugonza Fred and Monday Christopher.

The newly elected Executive Committee will oversee the affairs of USSSA during the 2026–2030 term as the association prepares to build on its programmes for school sports development across Uganda.
