Post Elections 2021: Byabakama Insists, We Announced Results From the Field
The Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama insisted that his commission announced real results from the field.
As the law commands, Electoral commission announced the winner of 2020/21 presidential general elections in less than 48 hours and they did declared Incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the winner on 16th January 2021 at the National tally centre which was situated at Kyambogo University, Kampala.
Since he (Byabakama) announced the longest ruling president in Uganda as the President elect for next five years, the other opponents and the public at large reacted negatively against Byabakama’s results and said he announced fake results that don’t match with electorates decision.
The EC announced Museveni as a winner with a percentage of 58 (6,042,898 votes) while his closest competitor Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert received 35.08% (3,631,437 votes).
On Thursday, 27, January 2021, the Electoral commission published the final results for presidential those he again didn’t give the breakdown per districts.
While addressing media at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala, Byabakama refuted the information making around on social media and other mainstream media that the results announced, were cooked not from the polling stations.
“You asking where the results were coming from..hehe..” Byabakama replying to a question.
“The results we declared were coming from the field, absolutely the results were from the polling stations across the country where various Ugandan voters turned up in millions to vote.” Adding ” And you the media captured some of them on camera.”
“Now someone is saying we would need to know the process, are you interested in results or interested in how they were transmitted?” Byabakama asked.
Byabakama also said that the Electoral Commission did not include results from 83 polling stations, that had a total of 54357 voters due to irregularities manifested in those areas.
