Lukwago Flags Off MTN Omondi Stadium Construction
His Worship the Lord Mayor of Uganda’s capital, Kampala, Erias Lukwago officially flagged off the construction of MTN Omondi Stadium, to be located in Lugogo.
The dream of the thirteen time league champions, Kampala Capital City Football Club fans having their own reasonable home started coming true when the big men and women in the Authority came together today Thursday, 28, January 2021 at Lugogo to groundbreak the construction of the much awaited Stadium.
It should be remembered that the Telecommunication giant in MTN bought the naming rights of the Stadium that were previously owned by their biggest sponsor, StarTimes Uganda.
While giving his remarks at the milestone, the club and the Authority has hit today, Lukwago said their home ground has been an embarrassment to the history of their great club.
“I hope we will work on schedule because, it’s really been long overdue, I have always told you colleagues, what’s this! We are the best team in the country, we have a continental brand.” Lukwago expressing his view. “All those teams that have visited us here have been wondering, that this is the KCCA we have always feared. Let me tell you, we travelled to different countries, teams have state of the art stadia but ours, honestly speaking, it’s like a village playground. But this is really fantastic.”
The Lord Mayor also asked the contractors in Sarjan Construction Company to complete work in time because the fans are anxious to see their home.
“We invite the contractors, please, you need to understand the pressures that you have, you need to appreciate the kind of environment we working in and the anxiety, it’s really people want to see the Stadium.” Said Lukwago.
Lukwago demanded the contractors to construct the artistic picture of the Stadium they have in head.
“I hope the Stadium will be similar with the artistic impression we have got. I have the picture of the Stadium in my head. So we wish to have the same on ground.
The Executive Director of KCCA, Madam Dorothy Kisaka said that the government will be supporting the project of 10bn with 2bn annually for five years, while KCCA will be contributing 500M every financial year.
The MTN Omondi stadium when completed after three phases of construction, shall have a 9000 seating capacity.
“Phase one is going to entail construction of the VIP wing which will consist of so many facilities including dressing rooms (100sq meters each) for the home and visiting teams, which should offer enough space for the teams.”
“Each dressing room will be fully equipped and self-contained with bathroom and toilet facilities; so it should be state of the art like in all major stadia around the world,” said the club CEO, Anisha Muhoozi.
