The 11th edition of Pepsi University Football League group stage is climaxing and Group A fixtures all done today, Thursday 16th November 2023 and defending champions, Uganda Marty’s University and Bugema University made it to the quarters.
This group’s two games we held at the same time with the aim of avoiding any kind of syndicate.
At Kabale, Bugema University completed it’s double against Kabale University following a 1-0 important win that helped them to Propel to Quarters, Sulaiman Ssentongo scored the only goal.
The win moved Nyanzi Medhi coached side to 13 points and propelled them to knockout stage as one of the best losers.
In the other game held at Nkozi Grounds, defending champions, Uganda Martyr’s University thumped University of Kisubi 5-0 to finish the group as table leaders with 14 points.
Ssentongo Akbar had a brace, Joseph Kayondo, Richard Rwayanga and Peter Calvin Emayu were also on target for the defending champions.
Ssentongo opened the scoring route in the 37th minute before he doubled the Hosts’ lead in the 40th minute. Two minutes later Joseph Kayondo extended the lead and Richard Rwayanga made it four in the 45th minute.
Peter Calvin Emayu sealed the win with an 80th minute strike.
Out of the six groups, three are completed, that’s group F, Group C and Group A.
So far six Universities have qualifed to quarterfinals and only two slots remaining and three Universities are fighting for those three slots, St Lawrence University who only needs a point in their remaining fixture, Nkumba University who have ten points also have a game on road against Gulu University and Islamic University in Uganda who have nine points and their last game is at home against qualified MUBS.
Kampala University, Makerere University Business School, Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, Uganda Martyrs University, Bugema University are the qualified teams.
The league will resume on Saturday with two fixtures.
