Uganda Christian University continued with their perfect start of the 11th edition of the Pepsi University Football League after beating Kampala International University 2-0 in the game that honored on a rainy Monday afternoon at Mukono Campus.

Isaac Ofoyirwoth and Allan Opio scored the two goals that won UCU their third consecutive game of the group.

As early as five minutes, Isaac Ofoyirwoth had put the Cardinals in the lead with a fine header before Allan Opio double the lead in the 20th minute.

At that mark, the rain started falling and the whole remaining 25 minutes were played under heavy downpour.

Second stanza was only mess and no ball was played kicked since the turf was waterlogged.

The win put UCU in a better position to qualify to quarters final, currently the 2019 champions tops group D with nine points in three games and they only need three points to seal the quarter final berth.

Kampala International University lost their second game, only have one win and sit second on the log.

Coaches’ reactions:

“We had prepared for the game well, of course we didn’t know how the opponent play, but we prepare for whichever team especially at home, because it’s a must for us to win every game at home.
We scored two goals in 18 minutes, yes it was our target to kill off the game in first and then see what comes for second half, the rain disturbed is but we thank God that we got the win.” Says Ahumuza Collins, coach at UCU.

“There was a mix up in the defense that costed us the first goal but afterwards we reorganized ourselves though it started raining though and the ball wasn’t moving very well on the ground but thr referee allowed the game to continue and partly costed us. The strategy not to concede as may goals as possible but was to win the game but technically the other team played against us and they got an early goal that a little bit disorganized my team.

The target for second round is to win all the games, though the period is small but we shall go back and reorganize all the departments, good enough by the time exams will be done and I will be with a full team in training.” Says Akabwai Geofrey, Kampala International University tactician.
