FWSL: Asubo Swallow Five at Home, Defending champions Controversially Win as Kawempe Starts on a high Note on Road

The 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League kicked off over the weekend and saw 14 goals scored on match day one with Asubo Ladies FC being the side that conceded many (5).

The league officially started on Saturday with a goal less draw fixture between UCU Lady Cardinals and Lady Doves FC at Mukono.

Unlike last season, where the match day one had 10 goals recorded ,four extra goals were scored ,making it to 14 goals of the day.

Matchday one,saw the new entrants ,She Maroons scoring the highest number of goals on the day ,netting five past the last season relegation survivers Asubo Ladies FC at Kampala Quality Grounds, Lillian Kasuubo became the first player to register a hat-trick this season and Millicent Namweembe at brace.

At Kabaka Kyabagu ,the hosts suffered a 3-2 loss to Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in a five goal thriller ,Hadijja Babirye,Agnes Nabukenya and Phiona Nabulime all scored for the Valley Warriors in the first stanza while Jazmine Nalukwago Wujja Catherine were on target for the hosts.

At Phillip Omondi stadium Lugogo, Kampala Queens the defending champions controversially started the title defense with a 2-1 win against Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga WFC, Shamirah Nalugya converted a highly protested penalty referee awarded to Kampala Queens to cancel the Nkugwa coached side lead got from Latifa Nakasi before their former captain, Catherine Nagadya came off the bench to win three points for the hosts.

At St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, the new league entrants, Wakiso Hill WFC had a poor start with a 1-0 defeat at home, former She Corporate forward, Noelime Namiiro scored the only goal that gave Makerere University WFC a good start on road.

The match day two continues next weekend of 21st and 22nd, October 2023 with Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC hosting UCU Lady Cardinals, Uganda Martyrs at home welcoming Rines SS WFC, Asubo Ladies FC will be at home against hosting Lady Doves while highly flying She Maroons will host wounded Wakiso Hill at Luzira Prison grounds before Makerere University WFC face off with Defending champions Kampala Queens at Makerere.
