The Renewed Uganda Platform, a political pressure group that seconds Retired Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde on presidential seat, revealed their commitment to Muslim community once they take over power in the next five years.
Like they have been doing it in their campaigns, meeting different sections of people in the country, today at their headquarters in Kololo, Renewed Uganda family met the Muslim Community and highlighted five issues that are pertaining Muslims in Uganda.
Among the five issues, Gen. Henry Tumukunde’s government is will to handle with immediate effect is the issue of protecting the dignity of Muslim women.
Currently, Muslim women had no liberty to take photos for passports, National Identification Cards and for other important documents with hijabs on. But Renewed Uganda promised them that they shall have liberty to do it the way they want.
“Muslim women will have the liberty to take photos for passports, National ID and other identification documents in their hijab, something that has been contentious.
We believe there are other critical identification parameters that matters more than the so called ears. The finger print and eye print are enough.” Dr. Omar Kalinge-Nnyago, The Renewed Uganda chairman assured Muslim women.
Muslims came in big numbers at Kololo to listen to plans Renewed Uganda has for them.
Women welcomed the idea and also promised to vote for him come 14th January2021.
“We have been left out as Muslims especially we ladies, we have been finding hard time. We want to follow the laws of our religion but the current arrangement doesn’t respect that, so if we gotten someone who can fight for us, then why don’t we support him?” Namuddu Kuluthum told this website after the meeting.
“We are getting unfair treatment in this government, and how people see us, they take us, as rebels, as terrorists, but if someone come out to give us good treatment like Tumukunde promised then why don’t we support him.” Nakate Zainab.
The other commitments, Renewed Uganda promised to Muslim community include;
»» To license the first two Islamic banks in the first three years.
»» Many Muslims have been wrongly accused, imprisoned, mistreated, tortured and awarded costs, we pledge to ensure that those who were awarded cost/compensation are paid in our first year in office.
»» We promise to present the report on the massacre of Muslim in Mbarara in 1979 in war that overthrew Idi Amin.
»» We promise to return Masijid Noor on William Street to its rightful managers of the Jumuiatul ad-Dawa As Salafiya in the first 100 days in the office.
