FUFA Elections: Mujibu Kasule’s Plans Towards Women Football Once Given Mandate
On Tuesday,13th April 2021, Proline Football Club Director, Mujibu Kasule officially announced that he is going to stand against Eng Moses Magogo in the ongoing FUFA Elections that are climax on 31st August, 2021 in the FA’s Elective Assembly.
Mujibu who was frustrated in 2017 not to stand against Eng Moses Magogo, this time the former Cranes star and FIFA Players’ intermediate, Kasule bounced back and he hinted on his manifesto and what he is proposing to do for women football in Uganda once he is given the mandate to lead the game in the country.
Mujibu says, according to what he saw while U-17 National team playing, Uganda has a greater chance to qualify women team to world cup before men.
While addressing media at Macknon Suits in Kampala on Tuesday, Mujibu noted; “if you see this U17 team that we have, if there is deliberate effort to nurture it, then you can see that we have the talent and we make bars high with it. So in respect, we need to pay very close attention to the women game because they also deserve equal opportunity if they dream to play this game. We must support them with all our energies and we must develop them by putting the systems that they need.”
Mujibu is saying that the current football government has frustrated women football developers to the extent that FUFA doesn’t give them freedom to speak and whoever comes out to raise his or her voice, he or she is labelled as a figher.
“Much as the men’s game, hands are tied, for the women, both hands and legs, they don’t have a say in a game they are investing in. They live in fear, You make a slight comment and people bombard you in your phone and everywhere, they make sure they drive you out.” Mujibu
“At the moment, they are crying that even the money that comes from FIFA doesn’t get to them, the clubs tht are playing, they don’t even own the leagues they are playing in, two or three people are owning the game and just telling them what to do, that kind of work can not develop football.” Mujibu said.
Mujibu highlighted what he and his team proposing to do for women football once given mandate.
“We need to have our own football programmes when it comes to women football that are not FIFA programmes, at the moment we look into FIFA programmes, we meet the requirements and we get them.
On top of making sure that monies come to women football is channeled immediately towards the game. We are going to inject another 300M into the game.
We are going to create a professional board similar to the one of UPL for the women to own that such that clubs own thief football. At least for the first year, we are going to introduce professional contracts to the girls such that they can start to earn little money from the game because they are also have responsibilities.”
We have to have to bridge this gap between the women and men, the men should extend that hand towards women’s game, I am going to propose to the Premier league to start having double headers where the women’s A clubs attached to men’s such that we support them, start on the journey of having them sponsors.
We want to revamp Uganda women football Association, it has been dormant, it was politicized a lot, we need to give these people Independence and freedom to play, so we shall revamp the UWFA such that the players, the coaches, and Adminstrators freely participate and have a voice in the Association.”
