Preparations for the official burial of former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West County Member of Parliament, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, are underway following President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s decision to accord the veteran statesman an official burial in recognition of his decades of service to Uganda.
Addressing the media on behalf of the government, Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda said the National Organising Committee has begun working closely with the family to ensure a dignified send-off for the late general.
Gen. Moses Ali passed away on Saturday afternoon at Nakasero Hospital, a development announced by President Museveni in a condolence message in which he described the former minister as a dedicated patriot who served Uganda with distinction in both military and political leadership.
The President hailed Gen. Moses Ali’s contribution to national development, particularly his role in advancing the socio-economic transformation of the West Nile sub-region. He also commended him for his success as a commercial farmer.
“We shall miss greatly his contribution,” President Museveni said, while praying for the eternal repose of the fallen statesman.
The official burial is in recognition of Gen. Moses Ali’s more than five decades of public service. Throughout his career, he held several senior government positions, including Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, while serving for many years as Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County.
Tributes have continued to pour in from government officials, Members of Parliament, political leaders, cultural institutions and members of the public, who have described him as a humble, dedicated and visionary leader whose service left a lasting impact on the country.
Hundreds of mourners are expected to gather in Adjumani District to pay their final respects to the former military commander and long-serving public servant.
Meanwhile, Parliament will hold a special sitting on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to honour the late Gen. Moses Ali. President Museveni is expected to attend the session, which is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
In a communication to legislators, Government Chief Whip Ruth Aceng urged Members of Parliament to arrive by 8:00 a.m. to allow adequate time for security screening ahead of the President’s arrival.
