Canan Fight Back to Hold Police as Prisons Close Gap on KCCA in Uganda Netball Super League

Canan Netball Club and Police produced the most entertaining contest of the day after battling to a thrilling 45-45 draw in the Uganda Netball Super League on Friday, July 25 at Hamza Stadium Nakivubo.
The school girls looked destined for victory after dominating the opening three quarters, leading 14-10 in the first quarter, extending the advantage to 25-21 at halftime, and taking a narrow 35-34 lead into the final quarter.
However, Police relied on their experience, endurance and composure to stage a spirited comeback in the closing stages, denying Canan a famous victory as the contest ended in a dramatic stalemate.
Elsewhere, Uganda Prisons strengthened their title ambitions with a commanding 48-31 victory over Busia Greater Lions. The convincing win lifted Prisons to eight points, just two behind league leaders KCCA, while having played one game fewer. Prisons have now played four matches compared to KCCA’s five, giving them a valuable opportunity to move level or even overtake the table leaders in the coming fixtures.
UPDF also registered an important 40-35 victory over Dynamite Netball Club. The army side controlled much of the contest, with the quarter scores reading 12-9, 19-19, 33-28 before sealing the five-goal win at 40-35.
In another dramatic encounter, Kajjansi Progressive completed a remarkable comeback to edge Busia Greater Lions 45-44. Kajjansi trailed in all the first three quarters, with Busia leading 12-9, 24-20 and 36-30, before producing a strong final-quarter performance to snatch victory by a single goal.
In the men’s division, Patriots Men’s Netball Club comfortably defeated International 44-27, while Red Star claimed a 40-32 victory over Masaka Netball Club.
