Cycling: Muwonge ‘Mahaba’ Re-Elected UCA President, Mathias Accepts To Work With Him
Today at Uganda Olympic Committee head offices, the Uganda Cycling Association delegates extended Sam Muwonge’s tenure as their presidential for the next four years.
Mahaba as he is known in Cycling circles voted at least 21 voting delegates who attended the elective Assembly granted him mandate only one who opposed his candidacy and three abstained.
Mahaba and Mathias Lukwago who was in 2017 elected as the President of the other faction that was against Sam Muwonge’s leadership, today he officially accepted to walk the same journey with the former after realizing that now they have similar dreams of developing the sport.
After being given the mandate of of sailing the boat Muwonge accepted that they have had poor administration but it’s one of the issues his new executive is starting with and selling the game to the public.
“It’s true, with that I agree we had a poor management of the game and we have been disorganized but we are going to reorganize and sell our game out there, that’s why we brought in Junior Ssembatya as our publicity Secretary because he is a journalist who has that expertise.” Sam Muwonge told media.
Cycling Association is one of the sport that gets little or no official and budgeted support from National Council of Sports, after his re-election, Mahaba appealed to government via NCS to increase extend enough financial support to Cycling and also to help them held workshops.
“We ask the government to give us a hand, of course we can’t get amount equivalent to boxing or football but the government should give us that portion which can help us facilitate our activities.”
“Now we have an international competition in March in Cairo Egypt, the team is training but we don’t have money to buy them tickets.” Mahaba cry out to government.
