Seroma Retain USSSA National Swimming Crown as Competition Numbers Drop

Hosts Seroma Christian High School, Mukono successfully defended their Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Swimming Gala title after emerging overall champions at the 2026 edition of the championship.
The two-day competition concluded with Seroma collecting 960 overall points, finishing just 56 points ahead of Aga Khan High School, who amassed 904 points in one of the closest title races in recent years.
Green Hill Academy completed the podium in third place with 709 points, while Shree Sahajanand School finished fourth with 591 points.
Although Seroma retained the championship, they were pushed all the way by Aga Khan. The boys’ competition ended in a deadlock, with both schools scoring 433 points each.
The difference came in the girls’ category, where Seroma outperformed Aga Khan 455 to 407, giving the hosts the cushion they needed to successfully defend their overall crown.
A total of 186 swimmers from 12 schools participated in this year’s championship, alongside several individual entrants. The competing schools included Seroma Christian High School, Aga Khan High School, Green Hill Academy, Shree Sahajanand School, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, Nabisunsa Girls School, Muzza High School, Vienna College, Friends International, Kings College Budo and Mengo Secondary School.
The 2026 event recorded a significant decline in participation compared to last year. The 2025 championship attracted 450 swimmers from 24 schools, meaning both the number of athletes and participating schools dropped by more than half this year.
In the girls’ standings, Seroma topped the table with 455 points, followed by Aga Khan on 407 and Green Hill Academy on 329. Shree Sahajanand School finished fourth with 314 points, while Ndejje Senior Secondary School, Nabisunsa Girls, Muzza High School, Vienna College and BSK Rafters completed the top ten.
The boys’ competition saw Seroma and Aga Khan share first place with 433 points each. Individual entrants finished third with 380 points, ahead of Green Hill Academy (316), Shree Sahajanand School (205), Vienna College (191), Muzza High School (136), Ndejje Senior Secondary School (82), Friends International (59), Kings College Budo (47), Mengo Secondary School (26) and BSK Rafters (16).
Following the championship, 30 swimmers were selected to represent Uganda at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, scheduled to be held in Morogoro, Tanzania, this August.
Seroma’s successful title defence further cements the Mukono-based school’s reputation as one of Uganda’s leading swimming powerhouses, maintaining the dominance they displayed during last year’s championship while once again finishing ahead of their closest rivals.
