Cricket: Your ‘Work’ is Not at par, Four Dropped as Ladies’ National Team Enter Residential Camp Ahead of Global Qualifiers
Two weeks back, the newly appointed Lady Cricket Cranes Head coach, Suraj Karavadra summoned a squad of 24 Ladies who have been having none residential training at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
They were getting ready for the forthcoming Global World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana next month.
According to the technical team assessment, four ladies failed to make the cut and 20 stayed for a residential training camp set to be held in Kawuku, Entebbe.
A squad of 20 ladies has been selected to enter residential camp as the qualifiers draw closer.
The Global World Cup Qualifiers are scheduled for September 7th to 20th in Gaborone Botswana. Uganda will battle 10 other teams for the single African slot to the next round.” A press release reads.
“A squad of 24 started preparations two weeks ago and has been reduced to 20 to continue practise with the final 14 expected to be announced before departure.
The training residence camp is meant to protect the players and officials from any Covid infections that could result into the team missing the tournament.” it continues.
The four players who didn’t make the cut for this tournament include; Gloria Obukor, Teddy Ayella, Carol Namugenyi, and Leona Babirye.
Team Head Coach Suraj Karavadra had this say about the camp
“We are going to a camp for three weeks before leaving for Botswana and the reason is that we don’t want a repeat of what happened with Rwanda. We shall use the three weeks to get the girls playing together and use more of the centre wicket. We have our sports phycologist (Edgar Kazibwe) with us for this period and it will be important that we keep the whole group in a good space before we travel to Botswana”
The team will be camped at Hawaii Resort in Kawuku Entebbe until they leave for the tournament in early September.
