NEC Ends Villa’s Super Eight ‘Life’ in a Dramatic Comeback

NEC FC have eliminated defending champions SC Villa from the FUFA Super 8 tournament after a dramatic 3–1 comeback victory, setting up a final showdown with KCCA FC on Tuesday.
Villa looked firmly in control in the first half, dominating possession and taking the lead through a beautifully executed header from Najib Yiga. The defending champions went into the break with a 1–0 advantage, but NEC returned from the dressing room with a completely different approach.
The tactical changes made by NEC head coach Badru Kaddu quickly changed the complexion of the game. NEC increased the pressure on Villa’s defence, while their substitutions added energy and attacking threat.
Basangwa became central to NEC’s comeback, playing a key role in both of the team’s first two goals. His persistence paid off when Villa goalkeeper failed to hold onto the ball, presenting Basangwa with the opportunity to level the contest.
Villa’s problems deepened as NEC continued to pile pressure on their defence. A corner kick created further confusion, eventually resulting in an own goal that put NEC ahead.
With Villa desperately searching for an equaliser late in the game, NEC delivered the decisive blow. Innocent Media produced a superb finish into an empty net after Villa’s goalkeeper and defenders were left on the ground, sealing a memorable 3–1 victory.
For NEC captain Sebwalunyo Hanington, the victory was built on lessons from last season. He revealed that losing to Villa three times last season provided extra motivation for the team, even after they found themselves trailing at half-time.
The captain also pointed to discipline, faith and NEC’s never-say-die mentality as key ingredients behind their impressive form.

Hanington believes the possibility of winning silverware will provide further motivation as NEC prepare for the final.
Coach Badru Kaddu praised his players for responding to the challenge of facing a big opponent, insisting that the substitutions played a crucial role in turning the match around.
He singled out Basangwa for special praise, describing him as a top talent whose current form could finally give him the opportunity to shine after spending a considerable period at the club.
Kaddu also highlighted new signing Lubwama, who joined NEC from UPDF, describing him as one of the classy players capable of bringing out the true identity of what NEC want to become.
The coach insists NEC will approach the final with the same seriousness, saying every game requires its own preparation and tactical approach.
Their next challenge comes on Tuesday against KCCA FC, with a place at the top of the FUFA Super 8 and silverware at stake.
For Villa, however, their title defence has come to an end in painful fashion. After leading at half-time, the defending champions were unable to withstand NEC’s second-half tactical surge, as the competition produced another dramatic chapter in Uganda’s football calendar.
