Light College Katikamu made a strong start to their FEASSA 2026 netball campaign after defeating Tanzania’s Mkolani 30-24 in an entertaining Group A encounter in Morogoro, Tanzania.

The Ugandan side had to dig deep after falling behind in the opening quarter, with Mkolani taking a 10-7 lead. Light College responded strongly in the second quarter but still went into halftime trailing 14-13.

The Wakiso-based side returned from the break with renewed determination, turning the game around in the third quarter. They outscored Mkolani 10-5 to establish a 23-19 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Light College maintained their composure in the closing stages, adding seven more goals while restricting the Tanzanian side to five to secure a 30-24 victory.

The win gives Light College valuable points and confidence as they continue their Group A campaign, which also features defending champions St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende.

Kitende also enjoyed a dominant opening-day performance, overwhelming Kenya’s Bukoholo 77-26.

The defending champions raced to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 43-12 by halftime. They continued their dominance in the third quarter, leading 61-19 before completing a 51-goal victory.

With both Ugandan schools winning their opening matches, Group A promises an intriguing contest as Light College Katikamu seek to build on their impressive start while Kitende begin their title defence in commanding fashion.

For Light College, however, the 30-24 victory over Mkolani provides an early statement of intent and a positive foundation for their FEASSA 2026 campaign.
