Light College Katikamu, WINSA Arrive in Morogoro for FEASSA 2026

MOROGORO, TANZANIA — Uganda’s Light College School Katikamu and WINSA Primary School have safely arrived in Morogoro, Tanzania, ahead of the 2026 Federation of East Africa School Sports Games (FEASSA).
The two schools were among nine Ugandan teams that faced travel disruptions following restrictions related to compliance with Ministry of Works and Transport requirements. However, after securing the necessary clearance, they were eventually allowed to proceed with their journey to Tanzania.
The teams arrived in Morogoro on Thursday and are now focused on making a strong impression when the competition gets underway on Friday.
WINSA Primary School, the defending champions in the primary schools’ netball category, are particularly eager to retain their title.
WINSA captain Nalukenke Sharifa said the journey was challenging but did not dampen the team’s determination to compete.
“The journey was a bit challenging on both sides due to interference on the way. However, it couldn’t stop us from coming to TZ. Let people and fans back home expect a lot,” Sharifa said.»
WINSA head coach Kibirige Emmanuel is equally confident, saying his main target is to ensure the team retains the championship.
“I am happy to be part of WINSA. I found the team as champions, so I only need them to stay champions,” Kibirige said.
For Light College Katikamu (LICOKA), the tournament marks a historic first appearance at the FEASSA Games.
The school replaced Buddo Secondary School, who finished runners-up in the 2025 edition but withdrew from this year’s championship for undisclosed reasons.
LICOKA coach Mpoza Ivan is also making his first FEASSA appearance with the school after guiding the team through several competitions.
Mpoza said his immediate objective is to guide Light College into the medal bracket and make the school and Team Uganda proud.
His arrival at the regional games comes after a promising run in other competitions, raising expectations that LICOKA can compete strongly against some of East Africa’s established school teams.
The 2026 FEASSA Games in Morogoro officially begin on Friday, with fixtures across several sporting disciplines.
WINSA will be among the first Ugandan teams in action, taking on Tanzania’s Ichenjezya at 9:00 a.m. in the primary schools’ netball competition.
With the travel hurdles now behind them, both WINSA and Light College are hoping to turn their safe arrival in Morogoro into strong performances for Uganda.
