FEASSA Games 2026: A flying Start for WINSA as Kanjuki Fall on Day One

WINSA Primary School of Uganda began their defence of the FEASSA Primary School Netball title on a winning note after defeating Tanzania’s Ichenjezya 41-34 in their opening match in Morogoro, Tanzania.

The Ugandan side showed resilience after a closely contested opening half, leading 12-9 at the end of the first quarter before extending their advantage to 23-19 at half-time.

WINSA stepped up their performance in the third quarter, opening a 34-26 lead before completing the victory with a 41-34 scoreline at full time.

The result gives the defending champions an important start as they seek to retain the trophy they won in 2025 when the FEASSA Games were hosted in Kakamega, Kenya.

The Primary School Netball competition is being played on a round-robin basis, with seven teams competing for the championship. The team that accumulates the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned champion.

Uganda has two representatives in the category—defending champions WINSA Primary School from Wakiso and Kanjuki Junior from Kayunga District.

Kanjuki Junior, however, endured a difficult opening after falling 39-36 to Kenya’s Matangau in their first match.

Other results saw Kenya’s Masebula defeat Tanzania’s Lamadi 42-33.

In the secondary schools category, Uganda also enjoyed a strong showing. Light College Katikamu defeated Tanzania’s Mkolani 30-24, while St Mary’s Kitende thrashed Kenya’s Bukokholo 77-26.

St Noa Girls registered another convincing Ugandan victory, beating Tanzania’s Mbeya 65-25, while Hamdan Islamic School defeated Tanzania’s Vwaaawa 57-28.

With WINSA already off the mark, the defending champions will now look to build on their opening victory and maintain their push for another FEASSA Primary School Netball crown.
