Women Football: Watoto Women’s Derby Tourney Attracts Over 20 Teams
In their pursuit to promote women and girls’ football in the country, Watoto Wasoka has organised a new tournament for girls dubbed Women’s Derby.
The tourney slated for two days in bid to celebrate women and girls in football, it has started on Sunday and it’s to climax on Monday 08th March 2021 at Busega Community Primary School Playground.
This inaugural tourney which encompasses open category and junior (Under fifteen) category, it attracted 21 teams, nine in senior and 12 in junior categories.
“We are Watoto Wasoka, meaning we promote soccer but in this case, it’s women and girls football.” Said Kennedy Stephen Ssekabira, Watoto Wasoka Programme’s manager.
Among the teams in senior category, include; Everton FC, Asubo-Gafford Ladies, She Maroons, Prisons, Youth Soccer Uganda, Rines SS, Wakiso Hills,and Arrows.
The junior category has; Titans, Women in Sports, MSCADA, Dolphins, Dream Girls, RSA, Get into Soccer, Tigers, Arrows, Home Talents, MYSA and Sparta 09.
According to Programme’s Manager, the winner of the tournament will walk away with a set of Jersey, Trophy and medals, and other teams that have participated will receive a ball.
By the end of day one, the tourney has reached at knockout stage in both categories.
The four in senior that reached at semifinal, is Lady Doves FC, Everton, Youth Soccer Uganda and She Maroons.
