USSSA Ball Games 2024 Final: St Julian Beat ‘Petitioners’ Amus, Bring Glory to Greater Mukono after Two Decades of Title Drought

St Julian SS 3 -0 Amus College  

St Julian High School,Seeta Campus final unlocked the 22 years of title drought in Greater Mukono Region.

Julian went as underdogs in the 2024 USSSA Boys Football championship held in Masaka but went against all odds and lifted the trophy after schooling Amus College on final played at Masaka SS main ground in Masaka City on Sunday. 

The Felix Ssekabuuza coached side beat Amus College 3-0 at fulltime. 

James Ssekate scored twice in the first stanza of the in the 15th and 18th minutes. 

In the first goal, he called a rebound, Amus College’s custodian punched Mukasa Elisa’s hard shot into play for Sekate to rebound at the top of the net to count it one for St Julian High School. 

After three minutes, Mundha Jaheed released Ssekate in space for him to have only one touch at the top corner of the net for Julian’s second. 

Amus tried to get a consolation before the end of first stanza but St Julian’s backline of Tom Ssesazi, Lucky Jackson, Osinya Ryan Giggs and Ismeal Ssampuli were too solid for Amus’ forward to penetrate.

Returning to second half Amus College was in chasing position putting up some good display but Felix Ssekabuza’s boys were more than ready for the challenge. 

Halfway through the second half more bizarre for Amus College arrived, their defender Toto Majub denied Sekate James hat-trick with a hand and he was handed a straight red card before Simon Wanyama converted from a spot kick to make it three for Julian.

Coming up as under dogs on 26 April living as Champions nine days after posting a deserving performance right away from the commence of the championship. 

To become champions they topped their group with two wins and a draw, eliminating Kyadondo SS at round of 32 having a hard walk at round of 16 and in quarterfinal, they stopped the hosts, Masaka SS before dumping Bukedea Comprehensive on penalties 4-2 for their third time to progress on penalties win.  

Winning this year’s championship means that St Julian will represent Uganda at FEASSA games in August Joining joint Hosts Amus College, Bukedea Comprehensive and FEASSA games Boys football defending Champions St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende. 

Naggalama Islamic was the last Greater Mukono Region school that won the National championship in 2002.
