Transport: Taxi Operators to be Registered, Each to Pay 20000

Kampala::The taxi operators under their Umbrella body Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF) have embarked on national registration of all taxi drivers and conductors for easy social economic development in the industry.

The exercise is going to run Upto December 15 /2022 and each driver and conductor will pay 20,000 for registration and the card expires after 3 years, the cards will include , all details of the diver or conductor, details of his National ID , details of his Driving permits such that when the driver or conductor get any problem can be easily traced.

During the launch of the registration at old park today Rashid Ssekindi chairman UTOF says this exercise is going to see all workers in tax industry registered for a common goal because at many occasions taxi drivers and conductors have been getting problems and leaders can’t intervene because are not known in the industry,but all these will be history after registration.

He has disclosed that previously taxi drivers and conductors have been missing service delivery from government for example COVID-19 relief because they were not together and thier total numbers are not know but this has come to end adding even fights which has been occuring will never happen again.

He says it is also going to easy revenue collection from industry because all taxes and drivers plus conductors will be know.

The good thing, this time round, all the associations came together and embraced this development, before we were not at the same page but now, it’s different and I  encourage you to register. ” Says Ssekindi Rashid. 

Meanwhile Mustafa Mayambala the deputy chairman UTOF says this is a blessing because all tax drivers and conductors in the country are going to have one voice

He has advised them to embrace the process such that they know the total number of drivers and conductors in the industry for social economic development.

“This card will have all your details, the driving permit number, details from your national ID, and we are in talks with traffic police to see that even if a driver doesn’t move with his original permit, they can use the card, and there will be no forgery because this card is going to have the bar code.” Says Mustafa Mayambala, deputy chairperson, UTOF.
