Pepsi UFL Semifinal1: No Boat Balancing, Holy Spirit ‘Sides’ With UCU not Martyrs from Nkozi

The first battle between the two different Christian faith based Education Institutions won by Uganda Christian University and Uganda Martyrs has only the second leg to prove their worth in the semifinal of the 2022 University football league edition.
The defending champions Uganda Christian University picked up a narrow but important 1-0 win over former champions Uganda Martyrs University in the first leg of their 2022 Pepsi University Football League semi-final played on Thursday afternoon in Mukono.
Ofoywroth Isaac gave the hosts UCU the lead in the 14th minute and it turned out to be the only goal of the game despite efforts from both sides.
Though he scored a very important goal for Ahumuza Collins charges, Ofoyrwoth was shown a red card in the 59th minute leaving UCU to work hard to defend their lead for the next 31 minutes of the game.
The home side played like defending champions, containing the game, Lubega Sharif, Wesonge Collins and the skipper, Geoffrey Gagganga were exceptional on the day.
However, in the last minutes of the game, Uganda Martyrs’ substitute Kasozi Kennedy was also shown a red card in the 88th minute.
Though they were at home, UCU played more defensive game but the tactician had this to explain.
“The boys played according to instructions and good enough we got an early goal but again we conceded a red card in early minutes of second half so we had to protect our goal.
“Yes the red card of Isaac will cost us in second leg but again we have other players who can replace him, we are confident we shall get the results from Nkozi. ” Said Ahumuza Collins, UCU’s tactician.
Her counterpart, UMU’s assistant coach, Adadi Mutumba accepted that they were not sharp before the goal mouth but they are going to work on them.
“I can’t say that, it was a bad day in office, the boys played well, made only one error and we were punished, however, we got all the chances to win the game but our front players, were not sharp, but it’s not yet over, we are going to kill it off from Nkozi”
The match ended 1-0 setting up what will surely be an exciting return leg next week 27th October in Nkozi.
Action in the Pepsi University Football League semi-finals continues on Tuesday 25th October 2022 when St. Lawrence University host Makerere University Business School (MUBS) who replaced Kyambogo University following their successful petition over the latter’s use of an impersonator during their quarter-final second leg win at Nakawa.
