The public transport operators especially for long routes have revised the travel fares from those hiked during serious lockdown and Christmas festive season.
According to a document, this website had a copy, the fare for long routes have been reduced to at least half and 30% compared to the previous one before the president’s address last week.

According to the document, Kampala-Masaka has been at 20,000/- now reduced to 15,000/-, Kampala to Mbarara moved from 40,000/- to 30,000/-, Kampala to Kasese dropped from 60,000/- to 40,000/-
In the same line, the minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala addressed press today at Media Centre in Kampala and revealed that they had a chat with the public transport operators about the full reopening of public transport.
“I specifically held engagements with public transport operators and we agreed on the transport fares to be charged in this period.” Gen. Katumba Said.
In his address, the president of Uganda, Kaguta Museveni asserted that passengers to board, must have the vaccination cards, today, Katumba emphasized and added that even all transport crew, that include; drivers, conductors and turn men should also be fully vaccinated.
“Every crew member of a public service vehicle, which include the driver and conductor or turn man, and any other crew member, must be fully vaccinated”
Katumba also warned the transport crew to be alert about the terror attacks, he asked them to be vigilant to check every passenger even those they pick along the way.
About the school reopening and how, transport ministry is ready to handle the matter, General says that they went in talks with the Prime minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja and concluded that during the going back to school week, curfew will be lifted to ease the transportation of students.
“We have agreed with the Prime Minister RobinahNabbanja that during the week of return of students. There will be no curfew hours” he confirmed.
The schools are to reopen starting 10th January 2022.
