It was a day filled with excitement, celebration, and outstanding sporting displays as Rays of Grace Junior School successfully held its 2026 Sports Gala on Saturday, 4th July 2026, at the school playground.

The colorful event attracted parents, guardians, teachers, and invited guests who turned up in large numbers to cheer on the learners as they showcased their talents in various sporting disciplines.

The day’s activities officially got underway with a spectacular march past by pupils and staff, accompanied by a vibrant brass band performed by the school’s own learners. The impressive display set the tone for a memorable day of competition, teamwork, and celebration.

Throughout the gala, learners competed in a variety of activities including concentration games, mental games, football, athletics, and other fun competitions designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and confidence among pupils.

While addressing parents during the closing ceremony, Mr. Roberts Kiwanuka, the Director of Rays of Grace Junior School, applauded parents for honoring the school’s invitation and encouraged them to continue supporting their children’s talents alongside academics.

“It is very important to see parents turning up to support their children in the development of their talents. In today’s world, the sports sector has become one of the leading industries, and many people have transformed their lives through sports,” Mr. Kiwanuka said.

He emphasized that sports should not be viewed merely as recreation but as an essential component of a child’s holistic development.

According to Mr. Kiwanuka, participation in sports promotes physical fitness, improves mental well-being, builds confidence, instills discipline, and exposes learners to opportunities that can positively shape their future.

“Sports contribute greatly to the physical and mental well-being of children. They also help learners develop confidence, leadership skills, teamwork, discipline, and expose them to opportunities beyond the classroom,” he added.

The competitions remained highly competitive throughout the day, with each house displaying determination and teamwork in pursuit of the overall championship.

At the end of the gala, Pink House successfully defended its title after accumulating 73 points, emerging as the overall champions for the second consecutive year.

Orange House finished in second place with 71 points, while Blue House settled for third position with 70 points after putting up spirited performances across the various events.

Outstanding learners who finished first and second in their respective competitions were recognized with medals in appreciation of their exceptional performances. The overall champions, Pink House, were crowned with the prestigious Sports Gala trophy amid jubilant celebrations from pupils, teachers, and parents.

The successful event once again demonstrated Rays of Grace Junior School’s commitment to nurturing learners beyond academics by promoting sports, talent development, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

As the celebrations came to a close, the school announced that preparations are already underway for an even bigger Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) Festival, scheduled for next term, promising another exciting platform for learners to showcase their creativity and talents.
