Masaza Cup2021: Thirsty Buluuli Advances To Knockout Stage after Eight Years of Trying

Buluuli Ssaza Football Team secured their first place in the quarter finals of the Buganda Masaza Cup since 2013 with a 2-1 victory over Kyadondo on Monday 29th, November at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in Kyaggwe.

Exciting young talent, Derrick Kaija and team captain, Lawrence Kakande scored the two important goals to end hopes of the 2008 champions, Kyadondo of advancing to quarter finals.

Kaija sent 2011 champions into lead 9 minutes to halftime but the lead only lasted for Seven minutes when Kenneth Kimera levelled the matters through a well taken free kick to end first stanza in a one all draw.

The skipper, Lawrence Kakande restored Buluuli`s win in the 59th minute when he converted a penalty kick sending Kyadondo goalkeeper, Enock Kibuuka opposite direction.

Kyadondo had an opportunity to equalize but their (Kyadondo) target man, Kenneth Kimera hit the post on two occasion missing from penalty and a free kick from a close range.

“It has been a while since we last made it to quarter finals but when I was entrusted with the role of leading the team as a manager, I had to sit down and analyze how to break the jinx. Our weapon is the use of young talents from our District which has really working for us”. Buluuli manager, Tiberondwa Steven Bujingo told Voice of Bugerere after the match.

The last time Buluuli reached quarter finals was 2013 when they advanced up to semi finals losing to Mawokota 1-0 in Mpigi and a barren draw (0-0) in Nakasongola under coach Sadiki Ssempigi.

Earlier on in an early kick off game, Ssingo defeated all time winners by 2-0 score line to book a place in the quarter finals.

Buluuli and Ssingo will take on top two teams from Muganzirwaza group who jets-in on Tuesday 30th, November at the FUFA Technical Centre camp in Njeru, Kyaggwe.

Muganzirwaza has teams like Buddu, Mawogola, Buwekula, Busujju and Butambala who will compete for two slots from Wednesday 1st, December up to Wednesday 8th.
