SUPL: 9-Man BUL Hold Express In Wankulukuku
In a game played at a slippery ground of Wankulukuku, 9-man BUL showed resilience as they played to a 1-all draw against Express FC.
Full of chances created and wasted, unbelievable saves and crazy moments, BUL FC will maybe win a game at the home of Express next season since they last won away from home against Express FC in 2012.
In just seven minutes played, defender Nicholas Mwere found the back of the net to put the hosts in the lead and on the course of beating Express at their home in 11 years.
Express FC immediately started to hunt for the equalizer before the break and indeed got a chance to score when they were awarded a penalty after goal scorer Mwere fouled Emmanuel Wasswa in the forbidden area at the death of the first stanza.
Isaac Wagoina stepped up and took the shot to the right low bottom corner to level the matters despite the goalkeeper guessing the right side but couldn’t save it.
In the second half, substitute Eddie Ssebandeke escaped a red card after a reckless foul that could have left the hosts with 10 players.
In the 63rd minute, Benon Tahomera received a second yellow card after an intentional slap and was sent out to leave BUL with one man less.
With the dorminancy of Express FC, it needed Tom Ikara’a brilliance to keep BUL in the game.
It was in the 71st minute when everything turned around BUL FC when Walter Ochora was sent out for the second bookable offense which left the technical team unhappy and two minutes later, assistant coach Simon Masaba was shown a straight red card.
With three red cards, two for players and one for the assistant coach, BUL FC had to defend the last 17 minutes with their hearts to get a positive result from Wankulukuku.
The table leaders nearly conceded twice but goalkeeper Tom Ikara pulled two incredible and world class saves to deny the hosts.
At the death of the game, substitute Gerald Ogweti almost restored the lead for the visitors but his well struck shot was saved by goalkeeper Abdul Kimera and Tonny Mbazira cleared the ball off the line.
With the collective team work effort, 9-man BUL managed to get a point on the road and went five points on the top of the table above second place Vipers SC.
BUL FC’s players have received five red cards in the last three games while their head coach was also shown a red card in a 2-0 loss to UPDF FC and today, his assistant Simon Masaba was also sent out making a total of 7 red cards this season.
In the next game, Express FC will play SC Villa on Friday 8th, December in Wankulukuku in a rescheduled encounter while on Sunday 10th, December, BUL will welcome new entrants NEC FC at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Match day ten continues tomorrow with three games as Maroons visits Busoga United in Jinja, Mbarara City welcomes unpredictable KCCA FC while at 7PM, newcomers NEC FC will play URA FC at MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
