Stanbic Ug Cup: Lukwago Apologizes for the ‘gift’ Granted to Express FC as KCCA lose Quarterfinal at Home

Officially the Kampala Capital City Authority FC custodian and skipper, Charles Lukwago came out and apologized to club’s fans for the howler he made in quarterfinal return leg fixture of Stanbic Uganda Cup against Express FC.

For starters, KCCA at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo, KCCA FC were in the lead of the game with a goal up tht came in first stanza. However, with less than ten minutes for the Kasasiro boys to qualify to Semifinals, the madness storm into Lukwago’s head and he elbowed Express’forward Charles Musiige in the area the incident which the Centre referee, Ali Kaddu clearly saw and he awarded a penalty to visitors and Martin Kizza found the back of the net for Express to level the game.

The game ended 1-1 and Express FC propelled to Semifinals, the blame of KCCA FC losing was put to Lukwago. After 32 days since it happened, Lukwago today came out and wrote an apology letter to KCCA FC fans.

“It is with heartfelt feelings that I write to you our beloved fans and all stakeholders for the first time in a very long time. However, it comes following the sad events of 4th June 2021 at the MTN Omondi
Stadium in Lugogo.

I am here to apologize to you all for the heart-breaking mistake I made in our Uganda cup quarterfinal match against Express FC on that dark day. It was not only a mistake against our old rival but also one that got us to miss the
semi-finals of the competition.

I wholly understand we were in control and were only minutes away from progressing to the last four. As captain of this mighty club, it was my duty to ensure progress but not let my team and you the fans down.

I am entirely sorry for the pain I have caused you since. As long as I am still at the books of KCCA, I will serve and work my lungs out to restore this club’s pride and bring back the smile on all your faces. To my teammates, I am sorry I let you down but I promise to diligently lead and by example going forward. To the management and technical team, thank you for trusting me and standing by my side.

I assure you I will do my very best from now onwards. Lastly, our dear fans please take care of yourselves and your families in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. May God protect you all.” the letter signed by Lukwago reads.

The question remains, will the fans forgive Lukwago who has been there club’s skipper since 2019.
