She Cranes: UNF League MVP Shakira Nassaka Earns Maiden Senior Team Call, Vows to Workhard for a Slot on Final List
The 2021 Uganda Netball Women’s Super League Most Valuable Player, Shakira Nassaka is among the 30 players, the She Cranes head coach, Fred Mugerwa summoned on Thursday to prepare for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Makindye Weyonjo skipper and goal defender, Nassaka earned her maiden senior national team the She Cranes summon and she could not hide her excitement.
“Being among the 30 is something good, worth to celebrate and to be happy for.” Said Shakira Nassaka in an exclusive interview with this website.
“But someone to be voted as MVP, it means, that person has worked hard to achieve that in a season, maybe it has also helped me to appear on the list.
However, being summoned among the 30 doesn’t mean that I have made it but it has sent me to go and work even harder to see that I make it to the final list.
I am going to add on my personal training before joining the camp and even at the team I will work harder and give in by best, never know, I might make it to the final list”
Nassaka is not the only unique face on the team, it has new faces like; Namutebi Rose (KCCA), Najjuka Annet (KCCA), Shakirah Nakanyike (Police) and Namulumba Christine (Prisons).
Fred Mugerwa, head Coach She Cranes revealed that the summoned team will commence non residential training on Sunday 22nd May 2022 at Kamwokya Community Sports Centre and they will have two training sessions every day.
Uganda is pitted in Group B against hosts England, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Northern Ireland and Malawi.
The Commonwealth games are between July and August 2022 in England.
