Reports: Low Students turn up hit St Lawrence Creamland Campus to closure

A few years after the death of its master mind, Prof Lawrence Mukiibi, St Lawrence Creamland Campus, is no more.

The reliable sources told this site that the campus was closed a couple of months ago by the school authorities.

The campus in question is located in Nabbingo along Kampala-Masaka Road, it was opened in the mid-1990s and became an instant hit due to its beautiful buildings and lush compound since it was an A-Level Campus only.

Another source told this website that at the time of its closure, it had fewer than 20 students who were transferred to other campuses.

What went wrong?

Sources also have it that the government’s push for the Sciences may have been a major blow to the school since most of the students at the campus mainly did Arts subjects hence a reduction in attendance.

This campus has been kept afloat by foreign students from Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, and other countries. So when standards began deteriorating and other new private schools started mushrooming, many of these students left the school with only Ugandan students hence reduction in attendance.

A mass trek of teachers as they started their own schools didn’t only affect the teaching staff but also students for instance, Irene Lunkuse Mutebi, a popular teacher who founded her school and attracted a number of students from Creamland.

A section of OBs and OGs put it to the school rector Justine Tulina that she had not done enough to turn around the fortunes of the schools after her charismatic father died. Some described her as aloof and confrontational.

It should also be on record that for the first time in their history, St Lawrence Schools did not have any of their student admitted to a government scholarship at Makerere University last year.
