Pepsi UFL: “We’re Here not for Quick Success but to Build a Strong team for next two years”, Hassan Wasswa on Poor Start of IUEA

International University of East Africa, shared spoils with 2016 finalists, Nkumba University in the Pepsi University Football League match played today, Tuesday, at Kirombe playground-Kampala.
Came in the game while both teams were eyeing maximum points and this was visible from the first whistle though their players left the goal scoring boots at home maybe because of all the created chances none were converted.
Most scoring chances were more at the side of Nkumba University despite the fact that they had a poor first half. In second half they were more determined and attacking compares to Hassan Wasswa Mawanda side, the beach boys hit the woodwork twice in second half and all the attempts came from Obutu Meta.
IUEA created chances but most of them went begging past the goal mouth and it was visible they missed the services of their skipper Bino Marker and forward, Athorbet Marker who were sidelined due sickness and injury respectively.
The result stretched IUEA winless streak to three games in the row this season, one loss and two draws.
However, their tactician Hassan Wasswa Mawanda remained unmoved with the results, he is only confident that the team he is building will be very strong in the next two to three years as he explains.
“As I said at the beginning of our campaign, it’s a new team, new players so it’s a transition from old team to a new team,.” Says former Uganda Cranes Defender.
“I am trying to build a team that is going to perform in the next two to three years,so for me its a good start for IUEA, because when you look at their records, they really struggled a lot to play in UFL. We’re not in hurry for quick accolades, I am happy with the performance so far.
With these two points in three goals it’s not a bad start for me.
Our target is to get to the quarter finals if it’s goes to our plan.”
With the absence of his two main stars, Wasswa had this to comment.
“Of course we have missed them [Bino Marker and Athorbet Marker], they are the pillars of the team but when they are not here the University has to improvise so hopefully the next games they be here because they had injuries, but probably within the next two weeks they will be back and fully fit.” Confessed Hassan Wasswa.
His counterpart, Sulaiman Bbosa of Nkumba University said that it was unfortunate that he didn’t get the maximum points.
“It’s unfortunate that we have not get three points but we got one point away but not so bad but with the performance we have put especially in second half we thought that we would win the game, unfortunately we didn’t convert the chances, we hit the crossbar two times, and they also defended well.” Sulaiman Bbosa.
St. Lawrence University still on top of group E table with six points, Nkumba now second with four points in three games, IUEA third while Gulu University last on the table with only a point.
The league resumes on Wednesday when ISBAT University hosting Kampala University at YMCA Buwambo Campus.
