Pepsi UFL: UMU on Top of Catholic Affair, Ssentongo on Brace as Unik Suffers Second Defeat

University of Kisubi 1-2 Uganda Martyrs University
The defending champions, Uganda Martyrs University, continued with their fine form, beating University of Kisubi 2-1 at Entebbe on Thursday afternoon to won the Catholic affair.
The two sides are Catholic faith based institutions.
Ssentongo Akbar the current league top scorer with four goals in two games, had a brace on the day and Musasizi Musa was on target for Unik to have their first goal of the season.
The 2022 champions had the command of the game for the whole of the first half though were on the road.
Ssentongo Akbar gave Eric Kisuze charges a lead with slot in, 13 minutes into the game, capitalizing on the error made by Unik custodian who never calculated his move leaving the goal empty.
The fearless Saints continued to launch deadly attacks using both wings and on two occasions, K Julius, the Unik goalie had to pull out his goalkeeping skills to make classic saves before Ssentongo Akbar doubled the Saints’ lead in the 34th minute with a wonderful free kick taken, 25 yards aways from the goal line.
In second half, the Jessey Lukoki boys came with nothing to lose mentality and tried to have the control of the game, putting UMU on the receiving end and in the 65th minute, the got a consolation via captain Musasizi Musa strong header converted from a well taken corner kick.
This has been the first goal for Unik this season because their first game, they lost 3-0 on road against Kabale University.
The game ended 2-1 in favor of UMU who now moved to six points in two games of group A.
“The performance wasn’t bad, our strategy was to have the ball possession and the control of the game to which we have achieved.” Said Eric Kisuze, UMU tactician.
“Another positive, we have created more chances though we did not convert the and we are going to work on that.
We didn’t not underestimate Unik but some of our players had games on weekend and others have next weekend for other tournaments, so they never wanted to give a whole but to maintain the game as well as winning the game.” Said Eric Kisuze, Uganda Marty’s University Head coach.
About the form of Ssentongo Akbar who has scored four goals in two games, Kisuze revealed that he is the player they are building on to see that they go higher.
“Ssentongo is a good player, he is in his final year, but his performance is good, he keeps on growing in every game, he is one of the players we’re looking up to see that we go high when he keeps om improving his game.”
The league will resume on Friday as IUEA taking on St Lawrence University at Lukuli playground.
