Semi-Final: 2nd Leg

Uganda Martyrs University (5) 1-0 (4) UCU [agg 1-1]

At Nkozi, Uganda Martyrs University became too heavy for Uganda Christian University to handle in the second leg of semi final one of the Pepsi University football league. 

The 2017 champions, Uganda Martyrs University became the first team to reach the final of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League after eliminating defending champions Uganda Christian University via penalty spots.

Sunny Kaija scored the only goal of the game as Uganda Martyrs edged UCU 1-0 in the second leg of the semifinal tie played on Thursday.

Sunny’s important goal came in the 67th minute of the tight game. 

This ensured that the hosts equalled this encounter having lost by the same scoreline in the first leg played in Mukono a week ago.

After a one all stalemate on aggregate the game went into the penalty shootouts and Uganda Martyrs won it 5-4 and it is once again Kaija that scored the decisive penalty.

Uganda Martyrs return to the final for the first time since 2017 when they went all the way and won their only Pepsi University Football League title at the expense of two-time champions Makerere University Business School 2-0.

For starters, again to reach at final, UMU eliminated UCU at quarter finals. 

Uganda Martyrs will play the victor between St. Lawrence University and MUBS in the final that is scheduled for 12th November 2022 at Lugogo.

St. Lawrence edged  MUBS 2-1 in the first leg of the other semifinal on Tuesday in Kavule, they will meet again next week on Tuesday, November 1st in Nakawa for the second leg.
