Pepsi UFL: Makerere University at Victory on Return, as YMCA Proves to be More Of Tourists

Kasagga Sadat scored the only goal that gave Makerere University victory at their return to Pepsi University Football League after four years of no show due to indiscipline cases.

The game played at a fully packed Teargas Arena today after welcomed back the Inaugural Champions with a 1-0 deserved victory, thanked to Kasagga Sadat well converted penalty came in the 33rd minute of first stanza.

The hosts, Makerere University and visitors, YMCA Comprehensive Institute played with no direction for the first 30 minutes of the game, and none thought a goal would come in the next few minutes.

Both sides showed no aggression towards the goal until an abrupt chance fell to Makerere when the YMCA defender had a handball in the forbidden area for center referee, Steven Kimayo award to a penalty to the hosts.

Calmly, Kasagga Sadat converted it at the back of the net sending Mukisa Prosper, YMCA’s custodian to a wrong direction in the 33rd minute of the game before celebrations from the naughty campusers followed.

The second stanza looked more the same as first stanza, Makerere never allowed visitors to possess the ball in their final third and apart from the offsides, YMCA got only once clear chance to score that came in the 68th minute when  Ddamba Elijah went on target.

And they proved that they were really underdogs on the day as their head coach asserts.

“Makerere is a big institute, they have ever won this title, the atmosphere, the fans and the ambiance on the ground never allowed us to concentrate and play , the boys are new in the league but we believe we can get back stronger and still have hope of making it to the knockout stage. “ Said Kiwanuka Innocent, YMCA Coach.

His counterpart, William Kasozi wasn’t so convinced with the performance of his players despite a win at home.

“It’s good we won our home game but not convinced with the performance, we expected more goals not one but we are going back to work on scoring.” Kasozi William.

Not like before, the Makerere University students (the fans) exercise maximum discipline and the had stewards who controlled the crowd to avoid the cases that forced the board to ban them.

The action returns tomorrow with one fixture as University of Kisubi hosting two time Champions MUBS at Kisubi.
