Parliamentary Elections 2026: EC Warns Wakiso MP Candidates Against Early Campaigns as Nominations Close

Wakiso, Uganda — October 24, 2025:
The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially closed nominations for Members of Parliament across the country, with Wakiso District confirming a total of 97 candidates cleared to contest for the nine parliamentary positions in the 2026 general elections.

Addressing the media today, Wakiso District Returning Officer Tolbert Musinguzi described the nomination exercise as a success, noting that all candidates who submitted their documents were duly nominated.

“I take this time to strongly warn you about early campaigns. When you are got with evidence, the Electoral Commission will not hesitate to punish you, as campaigns are slated to begin on the 10th of November 2025,”
Musinguzi cautioned.

According to the EC, 102 people had picked nomination forms, but only 97 completed the process. The remaining five did not return their papers, and their whereabouts remain unclear.

Among those nominated are 97 candidates for directly elected parliamentary seats and one Woman Member of Parliament, bringing the total to nine constituencies represented. Out of the total, 45 candidates are independents, while 52 were nominated under various political parties. The district also recorded 14 female candidates contesting at the constituency level.

Musinguzi expressed gratitude to both candidates and supporters for maintaining peace and order throughout the nomination period.

> “I thank all candidates for being peaceful and respecting the commission’s guidelines,” he said.

The EC has also scheduled a harmonization meeting for all nominated candidates on Monday, October 27, 2025, to discuss campaign management, security coordination, and crowd control ahead of the official campaign season.

“Please come and we talk about all the matters—be it security, crowd management, or anything that may not be working—so that we settle it before campaigns start,”
Musinguzi added.

The Electoral Commission emphasized that any candidate found engaging in early campaigns before the official date risks disqualification under electoral laws.
