Uganda Real Estate and Housing Expo 2026 Launched

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has called on stakeholders in Uganda’s real estate and housing sector to embrace innovative solutions to address the country’s housing deficit and promote access to affordable housing.
The call was made by the State Minister for Housing, Persis Namuganza, on Thursday at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala ahead of the second edition of the Uganda Real Estate and Housing Expo 2026.
The two-day expo is scheduled for September 25–26 at Kingdom Kampala Gardens and will be held under the theme, “Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Housing.”
The event is being organised in partnership with Bagras Events Limited and the Uganda Society of Architects.
The expo is expected to bring together property developers, investors, financial institutions, government agencies, architects, construction professionals and other players in the housing sector to discuss solutions to the challenges facing Uganda’s real estate industry.
Minister Namuganza said Uganda’s housing deficit currently stands at 2.48 million housing units, underscoring the need for innovative construction technologies, sustainable financing models and effective urban planning.
She said the expo will provide a platform for stakeholders to showcase affordable housing designs, share industry knowledge, discuss emerging market trends and strengthen public-private partnerships in the housing sector.

The minister also highlighted several government interventions aimed at improving housing and urban development, including the implementation of the National Housing Policy, the National Urban Policy 2017, the Condominium Property Act 2001 and the Physical Planning Act 2010.
She said the ministry is also strengthening land and physical planning services through its 23 zonal offices across the country.
Namuganza added that the ministry will offer free land title searches to members of the public during the expo as part of efforts to promote access to land information and improve awareness about land ownership and transactions.
The minister further warned that authorities would take action against buildings that have outlived their usefulness, lack proper planning or are unsuitable for prominent urban locations.
She said some of the structures could be marked for redevelopment, while property owners would be encouraged to explore partnerships with government through public-private partnership arrangements.
Namuganza said government is also prioritising climate-resilient housing, orderly urban growth and efficient land use as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions in Uganda’s cities and municipalities.
The 2026 expo is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to explore practical solutions to the country’s housing challenges while promoting investment and innovation across Uganda’s real estate and construction sectors.
