Netball: UNF Extends COVID Relief to She Cranes Players
The Uganda Netball Federation has extended Covid Relief to the members of National Netball team, the She Cranes.
Following the 42 days of Lockdown, the Netball Federation, saw it wise to secure a relief to the Netball players in Uganda but starts with National team players.
Today, Friday at their head offices at Aga Khan Building Old Kampala, the UNF Executive via their head, Hon. Sarah Babirye Kityo extended this covid relief of four million shillings going to 40 members of national teams. These had 37 players and three coaches.
Sarah Babirye Kityo before launching the giving away of one hundred thousand shillings [100,000/-] to each player and coaches, asked them to work together with the Federation because it’s working hard to see that their welfare is better than before.
“As a Federation, we are ready to give you a listening hear, we are ready to support you, we are ready to listen to you and we are ready to see that you live a better life but we request you, let’s work together, I assure you, one day we shall be number.” President told Players.
The president also revealed that this money they shared to players, came from World Netball body the previous Executive left on the accounts of the federation.
“The previous Executive of Madam Susan Anek, revealed to us that the World Netball body gave them Four million, Uganda Shillings as Covid relief, some advised us to use it to set up office and maybe to cater for other activities of the federation but we saw it wise to extend it to players because we did not know their state in this pandemic, we know it’s small but at least it can help and give confidence to girls that their mother body cares about them.” Hon. Sarah told media.
Nassanga Shadia’Miima’, the U21 skipper and the She Cranes goal shooter says that the Federation has done something that they have never seen before.
“First, I thank the Federation for thinking about us, surely they have done something new that has never happened before. And we are so grateful, we have been not earning from our clubs since June last year, but at least with this, at the end of the day you going back home with something.” Nassanga Shadia’Miima’
In the same sentiment, the She Cranes skipper and NIC Netball Club shooter, Stella Oyella added her voice to thank the new Federation for the great initiative and letting them feel that they are still special to the nation.
“I thank President and her executive, many players have been lacking, been not working, so thinking about us is something great, it can’t finish all our wantings but at least it can help.” Stella Oyella.
The also hinted on the players having their own Association where the Federation will easily meet their challenges.
