Masaza Cup 2023: No Kabaka at Wankulukuku as Bulemeezi Lifts 3rd Historical Trophy

His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, did not show up at Masaza Cup 2023 final where Bulemeezi beat Gomba Lions 1-0 at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Saturday.
While speaking to media after the game on Saturday, the Buganda Kingdom prime, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga didn’t give a clear reason as to why Kabaka never attended the most prestigious tournament final however, he revealed that Kabaka sent Nalinya to represent him.
Back to football on pitch, the sole goal from Johnson Ssenyonga that came in the 71st of the game, won Bulemeezi their third tournament title and denied Gomba their sixth title since 2004.
Bulemeezi had a slow start of the season and they needed to qualify as the best losers from their group to the quarters, the eliminated Buweekula before stopping Mawokota on semifinals.
Bulemeezi first won the Masaza Cup title in 2012, returned on podium in 2019 and now 2023.
In the classification match for third place finish, Mawokota beat Buddu 3-0 in the opening game of the day, Calvin Peter Emayu had a brace while Khonde Denis scored the last and all goals came in the first stanza.
The final had a good turn up.
Mukwana Yusuf of Kyaggwe Sazza was the top scorer of the tournament with seven goals, Allan Oyirwoth, Gomba Lions midfielder was named the Most Valuable Player while Abdul Bagenda of Bulemeezi was the best goal keeper.
The winner, Bulemeezi walked away with 12m shillings as prize money, Gomba went with Nine and third placed Mawokota went with five million shillings.
