Masaza Cup 2023: Mawogola Appoints SHACK Head Coach as their Tactician
After guiding St Henry’s College Kitovu to the final of the Uganda Secondary schools Sports Association Boys Football Championship 2023, Fred Kasekende landed on a ‘juicy’ job in Masaza tournament.
Mawogola Ssaza appointed Kasekende as their head coach for the 2023 season and his appointment was announced on Monday, 29th May 2023 at the Ssaza headquarters in Ssembabule.
Kasekende will work alongside Magaasi Jamadah and Sula Yasin with other members of the coaching staff yet to be identified.
“I have ever worked with Mawogola but as assistant coach, and you all know the ole of the assistant coach but now I returned as the head coach, I have experience, I almost worked with all the counties in greater Masaka, so I only ask the people of Mawogola to be behind us, we shall get out of the group.” Says Fred Kasekende, a CAF license holder.
Who is Kasekende Fred?
Kasekende Fred is a CAF C license holder, started his coaching career in 2011 a Ayod Soccer Academy.
Between 2014–2017, he was at Kabale Sanje SSS where he guided the team in Secondary schools nationals, he did the same in 2018 with St Josephine SSS Lwengo.
In 2019, he joined St Henry’s College Kitovu the school he reached final in 2023 in Mbarara, they lost to St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende and they walked away with a silver medal.
In Masaza Cup, he was at Kooki, Budu, and Mawogola as assistant coach.
The coached Sseese for three seasons and reached them on semifinals.
The Ssaza Chief Owek. Ssalongo Muhammad Sserwadda asked the organizing committee to work together as a team to see that Mawogola takes this year’s trophy.
“Thank you the committee for the work you are doing, team manager has painted a good picture that the arrangements will go on smoothly, I am happy that the coach is confident and he vowed to take us to great heights, so I ask you the committee to work as a team to see that Mawogola is on top.” Says Muteesa of Mawogola Owek. The Mawogola team manager, Kateregga Uthman revealed as to why they have decided to hire coach Kasekende above others.
“I know they will ask as to why we chose coach Kasekende, here is the reason, coach Kasekende is a youth like us, he understands the game of football, at least 90% of teams in our group come from greater Masaka and Kasekende has spent most of his coaching career learning the dynamics of the region’s football. He has been in schools football, the knockout tournament which is the same as Masaza, so we believe he is the suitable candidate for this role.” Said Team Manager Kateregga Uthman.
Mawogola is in Muganzirwaza group with Gomba Lions, Busiro, Mawokota, Ssese and Kabula.
