Ugandan football great Hakim “Boda Boda” Magumba was once again thrown into the national spotlight as he received a revered Lifetime Achievement Award during the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards held on Tuesday at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo.
The former SC Villa, Iganga, Atraco FC and Uganda Cranes midfield maestro—known for his unmatched flair and crowd-pleasing dribbles—expressed deep gratitude as he reflected on a career that stretched over two decades.

“It is my gratitude to the organizers, but it is also a good platform for me to appreciate everyone who helped me settle in the game of football,” Magumba said with emotion. “I will start from my parents who allowed me to play the game, to the administrators who shaped my journey—Isa Magoola, and the four presidents I played under: Twaha Kakaire, Denis Obua, Lawrence Mulindwa and Moses Magogo.”
Magumba used the moment to speak directly to the new generation of players, urging them to protect their talent by staying drug-free.
“Football doesn’t coexist with drugs,” he cautioned. “I played for 20 years without using any substances. I call upon young players to avoid drugs and save the game.”
The ceremony also celebrated rising stars and outstanding performers across other disciplines.

In swimming, Gloria Muzito claimed the World Islamic Solidarity Games’ Best Player accolade, outshining track athletes Rebecca Chellangat and Samuel Cherop for the month’s top performer.
Football’s emerging talent category saw James Bogere take home honours ahead of Uganda Cubs captain Hamza Ssengooba and Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ reliable goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje.
Golf was also recognized on the night, with Joseph Cwinya-Ai winning the nod after a clinical display at the Kinyara Sugar Open, edging rivals Joseph Kamulindwa and Meron Kemigisha.
The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards once again showcased the depth of Uganda’s sporting excellence—but it was Magumba’s heartfelt reflections, humility, and call for discipline that left the most enduring mark.
