Kayunga By-Election: Nakwedde With NUP’s Flag, Ready to Challenge for LC V Seat
The former Kayunga District Woman Member of Parliament Aspirant for the year 2021, Harriet Nakwedde came out as the suitable candidate for National Unity Platform flag.
Nakwedde who lost to Aidah Nantaba for MP seat, beat her competitors in the party and she came out as the best candidate after vetting, it’s now official she is the Lady to fight for the Local Council Five seat of Kayunga as NUP is trying to retain the seat that left by fellow member, Muhammad Sserubogo Ffefeka who died few days after his swearing in.
“I according announce that the elaborate process, Hon. Nakwedde Harriet has emerged the winner and she will carry the National Unity Platform flag in the upcoming elections. ” The letter signed by Election Management Committee Chairperson of National Unity Platform, Mercy Walukamba in parts read.
A number of NUP members in Kayunga District have been yearning to take the card, including Joel Kayiira who is the acting chairperson of Kayunga.
According to communication from Uganda’s Electoral Commission, the Kayunga District LCV By-election will take place on 16th December 2021.
About Nakweede Harriet Kafeero.
Nakwedde was born in Busaana Subcounty, she went to Nnongo Church of Uganda Primary School, Kyayaye Roman Catholic primary, Busaana SS for O-level, and Bukoyo SS Iganga for A-Level before joining Makerere University where she graduated as a professional teacher.
She has taught in different Secondary Schools mainly within Kayunga District.
She joined active politics in 2005 in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and held different leadership positions including but not limited to being District Chairperson of the FDC for 10 years and Deputy Secretary for Education ( NEC member) for 5 years.
She Contested for a Woman Member of Parliament in 2006 and 2011 representing Kayunga District.
In 2016 she became the District Woman councillor for Kayunga Town Council and Kayunga Subcounty. During that same time 2016-2021, was appointed Secretary for Education ( District Executive Committee Member).
2021 Contested for Woman Member of Parliament losing to Incumbent, Aidah Natamba Erios.
Nakwedde is Member of the Inner Wheel Club of Kampala, Member of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Member of Kayunga Community Clubs, Founder of the Forum for Emancipation to Empowerment Drive ( FEED) Among others
