History Written, For the First Time, Kabaka To Grace Masaza Cup Final in an Empty Stadium

It was confirmed that the 2020 Masaza Cup final fixture will be held at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday 06th March 2021.

Masaza Cup tourney is known Uganda in recent years as the football tournament that pulls a huge crowd especially on finals being held at Namboole Stadium.

But on Saturday, history going to be written as  2020 edition’s final going to be held without fans in stadium since the tournament was re-branded in 2004.

Buganda Minister for Sports, Leisure and Recreation, Owek. Henry Ssekabembe confirmed that they tried their level best to see if they at least have fans but the efforts when futile due to stringent COVID-19 SOPs. And Minister advised teams that going to play on final day not to mobilize their fans to come at Kitende because they will not be allowed in.

Let me emphasize this to all football lovers, people of Ssabasajja Kabaka, Uganda at large. Not like we have been full Stadia to capacity in finals, this time we tried out level best but our efforts went futile, so I am informing you that we shall not have fans at Kitende

On behalf of Ssabasajja, I apologize for that, so I ask those teams which are on final, please don’t mobilize your fans to come at Kitende.”

However, Ssekabembe said that the games both final and classification matches will be live on BBS Terefinayina and other media outlets.

The all time masaza cup winners (4times) will be playing final against 2016 champions, Ssaza Buddu while the classification match WI be between reigning champions Buleemezi and Busiro.

His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will grace the final.
