FWEL: Lucy Kobusigye Puts Pressure Off Asubo-Gafford With a Lone Strike Against Bunyaruguru Girls

No doubt, Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC is among the giant clubs in Elite League the public believe, it’s the side to mention when you think of promotion to Super League come next season.

In their opening, they dropped two points against Luweero Giant Queens, though they were on road but they had it to win the game but in the 70th minute they lost the lead when Mulungi Josephine leveled the matters for Luweero.

Today, the Kiteezi based side held their first home game this season, played against Bunyaruguru Girls FC and managed to win it by 1-0, thanks to Lucy Kobusigye only goal that came in the second stanza.

The first stanza had a dull game displayed by both sides, the ball was more in space than on ground, none of the sides had good ball control, despite the fact that the first half was played for 35 minutes since the game started 30 minutes late.

However, the visitors at least had two clear cut chances where they would score but the Asubo custodian was spot on as well as the second assistant referee who called off Bunyaruguru’s goal that was offside.

The second half, the ball tried to come back on ground, where we saw some few ball interchanges, which granted Asubo opportunity to go close to visitors’ goal area.

Nakayi Madinah, the perfect replacement for Sheebah Zalwango who left the club to Congo, was another player for Asubo who had a good game and in the 58th minute, she released Lucy Kobusigye to score for Asubo. 

The Benjamin Wanyama coached side had at least two more chances to score, Lucy had another one on one chance to score but Esther Namaganda, the Bunyaruguru custodian was spot on and the Immaculate Kizza effort was again denied by the same custodian in the 80th minute.

Bunyaruguru had no clear cut chances in second half and caused no serious threat to AsuboGafford defense.

“It has been hardwork from my girls, the opponent team was so strong, the girls were running but I thank my girls, they stayed solid so that we get the win, we should have scored more goals, we are progressing more.” Said Benyamin Wanyama, AsuboGafford Ladies tactician.

His counterpart, Nyanzi Meddie accepted that his opponent was good and since he was at home.

“My opponent was good, he was ready for the game and he had the home advantage, but I even missed some players who are in Post Primary Qualifiers but I believe in our next game I shall have some of them. ” Nyanzi Meddie.

Asubo-Gafford moved to four points in two games, they are playing against King of Kings WFC at Buhinga Stadium next weekend while Bunyaruguru Girls registered their first loss of the season., They only have one point and their next game is on road against Isra Soccer Academy on Sunday, 20, March, 2022.
