Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards: St Mary’s Hakim Mutebi Lifts March Accolade as Namabiro Stands Tall
The heroics he exhibited in Uganda’s journey to winning Silver medal in the just concluded All Africa Games in Ghana has prompted Real Stars Sports Agency and their partners, Fortebet to award Hakim Mutebi with a month of March Accolade.
The St Mary’s Boarding School form four student, received his award with a brown envelope on Tuesday at Lazio Restaurant Kololo.
The midfielder lifted the Uganda Hippos where it always mattered most, he scored a goal in Uganda’s historical comeback against Congo.
“I am happy to receive this award, it gives me courage to work more, it has been the first in my career, I thank those who have trusted me, I thank Fufa for giving us chance to play and expose our talents in different tournaments.” Said Hakim Mutebi after winning the Football category award.
Mutebi beat the competition off Kampala Queens and Under 20 forward, Catherine Nagadya and Usama Arafat of U20 and KCCA.
Uganda finished second with Silver in the games after losing to old foes Ghana 1-0 in the final.
Lydia Namabiro won the rugby accolade after beating Norbert Okeny and Peace Lekuru.
Namabiro helped the Lady Rugby Cranes Sevens finish fourth in the third round of the HSBC Challengers Series in Montevideo with a total of 4 trys.
In Accra, Ghana, she helped Uganda secure Gold on her first appearance in the games and the games at large.
Namabiro scored 6 trys for the Lady Rugby Cranes with woman of the tournament performance.
In badminton, Husina Kobugabe who won the first gold medal for Uganda in All Africa Games returned on podium after a short stint of no appearance, she was in contest with her pair, Gladys Mbabazi and Fadilah Shamika.
Kobugabe and Mbabazi teamed in the women’s double to beat Algeria’s duo 2-0 to clinch Uganda’s only gold for badminton in Africa Games.
Kobugabe went on to play in the Singles final losing to South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz 2-1.
Husina wasn’t at the venue to pick her accolade since she is still in Madrid for another Olympics qualifier tournament.
Weightlifting category was won by Kakungulu Memorial SS student, Davis Niyoyita, the form four student at Kakungulu beat off the competition from his school mate, Lydia Nakidde and Steven Ojeke.
The student of Kakungulu Memorial School Kibuli won three medals for Uganda in two silvers and won bronze.
Silver came from Clean and Jerk carrying 120 kg in 55kg category and bronze from snatch with a weight of 90kg.
The second silver came from his second position over-all behind Madagascars Eric Adrian.
